Problem rendering to Excel when using SOAP

I'm using Reporting Services 2005 with VS2005 and getting garbage when setting format=excel. (snippit below) All the other formats work fine and excel works fine if I use URL access with the report manager for the same report.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot this? My SOAP code is as follows:

I solved my own issue. I was setting the headers wrong. Needed to change

HttpContext.Current.Response.ContentType =

"text/html"

to excel

Problem rendering Reports with sub-reports to CSV

Hi, all.

Hope all is well with you. I have a Q re Reporting Services, hope someone can help me out. My setup: SQL Server Reporting Services 2000 SP 2, running in W2K3, Visual Studio 2003.

I have a report made up of a few sub-reports, stacked on top of each other. When I render the main report in Report Manager (HTML), the sub-reports comes out on top of each other as designed in the Layout, similarly when I export it to PDF.

However, when I export the main report to CSV, all of the sub-reports come out next to each other, rather than on top of each other, as originally designed.

Does anyone know how to overcome this problem?

Unfortunately the CSV renderer is not at all a layout renderer -- it just emits the data without too much regard for layout.|||

So, are you saying that there's probably no way around this problem?

Problem Rendering report via URL

My report is called test and it has one report parameter, Type. Somehow if
just keeps prompting me that the parameter is missing. Anybody had problems
with this before? This is the first report I've tried to run with a
parameter through a URL. RS2005............I figured this out. I wasn't pointing to the ReportViewer.aspx page...

Problem rendering PDF with Diagram in code...

Hi!
I have the problem that I can not render a PDF file containing a diagram via
code. My function is essentially:
Private Sub SaveAs()
... Some initalization here...

credentials, showHide, encoding, mimetype, reportHistoyrParameters,
warnings, streamIDs)

When I use a format other than PDF (e.g. Excel or MHTML) everything works
fine and I am able to retrieve the Report with the diagram included, no
Problem. On the other hand when I am rendering a PDF-File without any
Diagrams, everything works fine as well. Only when I try to render a report
that includes a Diagram in PDF, an exception is thrown. The text says
something like: "Retrieval of contents with invalid configuration for
contentstype: text/html - SOAP expects text/xml" (Sorry for not giving the
accurate error message - I am using the German version which displays German
error texts).

There is something I like to add to my initial posting. The same error (or
some similar error) occurs when I try to render the report with the diagram
from the Report Manager Web Interface. Here the Error is that the Server
Application is not avialable (an error I get from within my code too from
time to time).

setting the correct MIME type for the image?

There is another idea that pops to my mind. I have two collegues who do not
have difficulties to render reports with charts in PDF. Both of them have
Adobe Acrobat 6 installed. Is this a prerequisite? If I understand the
architecture of RS right, this should not be a prerequisit. As I understand
it PDF rendering is done autnomously by the Report Server without any
additional software. Or am I wrong?

Frank|||You are correct. You do not have to have PDF installed to export a report
using the PDF render.

Thank you for your quick response. That is what I thought too. But of course
this does not solve my initial problem: Reports with charts can not be
renderd to PDF in my environment here. Today I have installed SP1 but this
did not fix my problem. Reports with charts can still not be rendered to
PDF. What shall I do? Where can I start to search the error?

Summery of the Adventureworks Example and here I have selected one of the
employees to get a report with some nice charts on it. Then I tried to
export it (within Report Manager) to PDF. The accordings log-entires in the

Yes I installed SP1 and hoped that the error went away. Unfortunately it did
not. I use the german version of Reporting Services and also the german SP1.

Thank you very much. I have found the page and there is indeed Version
8.00.878.00. So my Reporting Services Server is up to date. I wonder what is
wrong here with my stuff because I heared from different people that they
could perfectly render PDFs with Charts. Maybe I should start up from
scratch and install the whole Reporting Services Server (including OS and
SQL-Server) again. What do you think?

Problem Rendering Multi Column

I've added a link to a sample on how my test-column report renders.

Any idea what's happening, while normally previewing the report (column by page) this problem doesn't occur .... The rendering is the same to TIFF

Any suggestion on what is the problem and even better, if there is a solution.

Found the problem, the page width exceeded the normal page width op an A4 page, obviously that gives a rendering problem, as soon i dropped 1 column redering was 'normal'

Problem rendering Matrix control

All,

I am able to display the data in matrix, however I need to place it next to a table report item, so that the rows in table and matrix together would represent the data for same entity. In order to accomplish that, the Matrix rows need to be properly aligned with Table rows. But thats not happening. For some reason, in the Layout view they align properly, but when I Preview the report, the rows are not aligned. I have checked the cell sizes of both in the properties, they are both identical. So, I am very surprised why the Matrix row size is growing less than Table row size when the report is generated. Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks.Never mind, I figured it out. It was nothing, just one of the table cells getting its text wrapped around and making the entire row seem bigger.sql

problem rendering a logo (external static image)

Hi,
I am having a problem rendering a logo, which is inside my asp.net
application, but first let me clear out what is exactly what I want to do and
what I have been able to do:
I am using soap access to render reports in our asp.net application, and it
works well (aside from a performance issue which I have not yet looked at).
The reports contain a logo, and it gets displayed pretty well. So basically,
everything is working.
The problem resides in that we wont be giving external access to Reporting
Services and the url of the images being displayed are pointing to reporting
services. I know there is a work around, since I could configure it as an
embedded image, and then use the render stream method of the web service. I
want to avoid doing so, since it is just a simple static image, which is
already rendered on the asp.net application. If I do so, I will have to deal
with creating temporary copies of it, and then deleting them (which I dont
know when to ... but that is another story).
So, the question is: is there a simple way to render the report in such a
way the image url the browser receive is that of the static file saved in our
asp.net application? if so, will exporting to other formats keep working
normally?I have been digging about the issue, and I dont seem to find any way to do
what I wanna do, in fact it seems that not being able to show external images
directly
from their source is by design ...
so, I am stuck with the normal routes ... I did find around in the boards,
how I can do it without ever writting the images to disk ... here, the post

In normal use of images it sounds pretty great, but I am concerned in my
case this might unnecesarily degrade performance (since I would be calling
the web service per image served, even if it is an already server image to
that client ... and it is a logo that appears on every page ... and the
report is showing all pages), even more than saving a copy of the static
image per client to the server, and then figuring out when to delete them
(and the way it is showed on the thread I posted above, doesnt help either
... because it assumes the image will get served once, and mine gets served
several times ...)
I would highly appreciate any lights in this, since I am in the dark ...
a couple comments:
to be honest, altough I undestand security implications I am not sure if it
solves the problem more than making devs lifes harder (I usually dont make
this type of comment :P :(:( ) ...
(*) One can render the report trough Soap access and get the images from rs,
then one is the server, in fact as long as u use the same generated id that u
get from the render call, u can even serve the image from a different
location (and setting the streamroot appropiately) ... in fact when using it
trough Soap access u can more easily mess with the reports itself (mess as
modify :P) ... this is a pretty good reason why restricting truly external
images when rendering in HTML trough soap access doesnt make any sense, it
isnt adding any degree of security ... in my opinion ...
