problem running vb.net application with sqlexpress in system with only .NET FRAMEWORK

Hi,

I have developed a stand alone application that get data from excel and dumps it in local database (sql server database primary data file) in visual studio .net 2005. I had no issues while developing the application. When i am trying to install this application in the standalone system with .net framework 2.0 and no backend database it giving the following error

provider: sql network interfaces, error 26 - Error locating Server/ Instance Specified

connection string i am using is

Dim objLocalDB As System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection

objLocalDB = New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection("Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=" & System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory & "LFDB.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True")

I dont want to use any backend database. I only want to use the database that comes with .net (i.e sqlexpress)

Please help me how can i get through this problem.

I can't understand if you installed SQLExpress as well, on the target computer... did you?

|||SQL Server Express is a backend database although the GUI tools are more lightweight than the ones of the more bigger editions. If you want to use user instances as mentioned in the connection string, you will need to have a SQL Server Express Service in place to attach the database to the Service. SQL Server Express can be deployed within your application (even through clickonce deplyoment but at the end need to be installed).

SQL Express is not part of the .NET Framework, it is a completely separate product that must be installed if you are going to use it. You can add SQL Express as a prerequisite to you application installation automatically using either ClickOnce or standard Setup Projects in VS 2005, in your projects properties, click the Prerequisite button and make sure SQL Express is checked in the list. This will automatically include the SQL Express installer in your deployment and install it on the target computer if it is needed.

Thanks for your valueable suggestion. So i cannot run a vb application developed using sql server management studio without SQL EXPRESS.I tried installing SQL EXPRESS in standalone system, but its giving issues.

Process followed -->

Uninstalled existing framework.

Installed .NET framework 2.0Dowloaded SQLEXPRESS and istalled in system.

Its throwing a error that .net should require some updates... What updates do we need to install to get this working.

Problem running SSIS from C# program.

I am able to run it from the file system but when I try running it from SQL Server I get an error message that it cannot load package. I am using the following code.

Problem running package

Hi,

I am trying to run simple import export package and if fails saying that pacage execution failed.

then i try using File system and the error say that it is not 32 bit driver and execution failed.

I get this error also

The return value was unknown. The process exit code was -1073741795. The step failed.

What does your package import/export? If you use 32-bit data providers, you will need to run your package in 32-bit mode.

Problem restoring database to a compressed drive.

I am learning how to use SMO and I have a test application that allows me to restore a database backup to a new database. On my system I have one physical drive but two logical drives on separate partitions. Drive C: is on a partition that is a FAT32 partition and drive D: is on a partition that is a NTFS partition and is a compressed partition. The database backup file is located on drive D:. When I try to restore the backup to a new database and provide a path on the D: drive in the RelocateFile object I get the following error message.

"The file 'D:\NPS_Test.mdf' is compressed but does not reside in a read-only database or filegroup. The file must be decompressed.

When I do a restore and indicate that the new database file will be located on the C: drive the restore works. I assume the problem has to do with the fact that drive D: is set up as a compressed drive, but I am not sure.

Does this mean that I cannot store a database file on a compressed drive or is there something I need to do to make it work?

Problem querying SysObjects and SysIndexes

When executing a basic query against (see below) the system object
table in a SQL 2000 database it displays the following error.
SELECT 1 FROM SYSOBJECTS
Server: Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Invalid object name 'SYSOBJECTS'.
The table does exist and the query is being run as an account with SQL
Admin privileges. This also occurs when trying to query the SysIndexes
table. Other databases on the server are able to query these tables.
What is causing this problem on this one database and how can it be
resolved?Some ideas.
1)Try SELECT 1 FROM sysobjects
2)Try SELECT 1 FROM dbo.sysobjects

Object name case sensitivity is determined by the database collation. I
suspect the following query will return a case-sensitive collation:
SELECT DATABASEPROPERTYEX(DB_NAME(), 'Collation')

I already thought of the suggestions that Jack posted, it was what Dan
has suggested a particular 3rd party database had been setup as case
sensitive.

Environment :
There are two Windows Server 2003 Std Ed servers
Server1 is Application Server
Server2 is Database Server(MS SQL2000 Std SP3a)
Hardware:
IBM Dual Xeon CPU
4GB Memory
Raid5 with 137GB Harddisk Space
Networking:
Server1 exposed to the Internet with firewall protected
A cross over cable connected between Server1 and Server2
Our Case:
We setup the Application on Server1
And all Workstations using the Windows Base Interface to use the program
If some user work outside Office, they will use the program through a remote
connection named TAXXI(http://www.taxxi.com).
Now we met a problem, on the SQL Server, we have created 3-5 database for
different group of users.
One of the database named D on the SQL Server always hang without any error
log.
It suddenly hang when user save their Data.
They can get the data from the System ,
only Save the data will make the screen freeze and lost of data after the
system back to normal in a hrs later.
We can't find any strange log on the EVENT VIEWER or SQL Server Log
From the Performance Monitor, we just found the Page Fault/sec was high and
always reach the Peak on Server1.
For Server2, only Write to Physical Disk was high.
If we login to other database in the time database D freeze the user screen
when save,
it works normally with input or save data to the system.
Plz help and give some suggestions for us to solve the problem.

problem on registering linked server in SQL2005

I have an InterBase 5 database, which has been registered as an ODBC System Data Source in my Windows 2000. When I try to add it as a linked server in SQL server 2005, the Add Linked Server page make me so frustrated. I can select the ODBC driver, but I don't know how to specify values for the fields such as Product Name, Database Source, and Provider string. I tried many combinations on these field values, all unsucceed . Anybody can tell me how to determine the values of these fields? Any reference articles about this? Please help me!There are examples in Books On Line have you looked at these?

Problem of vale setting

I have this .NET (VB) code:

The SQL qurey return only one record each time (only one student name with specific ID number)

I want that variable "name" will get the value of the "firstName" filed.

How to do it??Use ExecuteScalar instead of ExecuteReader. ExecuteScalar is designed for situations like this where you want the query to return a single value.

Problem Installing SQL Express 2005

When it is checking my PC configuration, I get the error message:

The OS's affected are: Win 2003, Win2003 SP1(x86, IA64, x64), and XP PRO SP2 and higher

This error can also be seen if WMI is corrupt on your machine. Try these cmd line statements:

Mofcomp.exe %windir%\system32\wbem\cimwin32.mof Regsvr32 wbemupgd.dll regsvr32 wbemsvc.dll wmiprvse /regserver|||

I ran those and on these 2 I got the error message:

Mofcomp.exe %windir%\system32\wbem\cimwin32.mof|||

The error message that you received didn't come through in your post. Can you please repost the error?

Problem inserting data into onw of my tables

i created an SSIS package to look for data in a table on another system and compare it with the table i have in system 2, if there are any changes to system 1 then it must apply them to system 2

My Problem:

It scans through my table and finds all the correct records to insert, but when it has to insert the new data into System 2 table i keep on getting violation and contraint errors because of the primary key and foreign key constraints. how can i get around this, or does anyone have an alternative solution for me.

Total Specification Requirements:

i have 2 systems both running SQL Server. everytime data gets updates in system 1, the same change needs to be made in system 2. The databases and tables are identical.

Any Help would be graetlty appreciated

There is nothing magic in SSIS that helps you with data issues like PK/FK violations. With the few details you are providing about your package I just can think in a few tips:

Know your data. If data is being duplicate by the inserts, you need to know why. Same for the FK. I don't know how you are performing the inserts; but is you are doing it in a data flow; at the very least you could enable error redirection in your OLE Destination component and capture the row(s) that generate the exceptions; so you have a better understanding of the situation. More info on my package.

I have a database called HISDirectory, inside HISDirectory is a Table called HISMemberData

I have two Servers with the same database. One server is situated in Australia and the other in SA.

Everytime a new member is added to HISMemberData in SA, it must take that same value and insert it into the HISMemberData Table in Australia.

the table only has 4 fields. ID, MemberID, HealthID, DateSend.

There is a KEY on MemberID and on HealthID

If i use the

INSERT INTO HISMemberData (MemberID, HealthID, DateSend)

VALEUS (123, 123, 123)

then it works fine, but i can't do a:

INSERT INTO HISMemberData (MemberID, HealthID, DateSend)

SELECT * FROM tmpTableWithCorrectValues

I have tried that method from the guys link you sent me before but it crashes with the same problem every way that i try.

Even if i could just get a SQL query to help me with the population of this table. I have created a SSIS package to import the table from the other side into a new table and then try to populate the table locally, but i just seem too stupid to get it done.

Ypou should be able to solve this using the approach described in the link I gave you. You need to make sure the lookup componnet is properly set up; this is: The join conditions should uniquely identify if the row exists in the target table and the error out put should set to redirect the errors ( a row not found in the lookup is treated as an error); then the error out put are you inserts and the other output are your discard or update rows.

Make sure the PK and FK definitions are identical in both tables.
