Problem restoring database ...

Dear Newsgroup,

I am using sql server 2000 over win 2000 server with service pack 4.

I have been given a back up of a database (I have tried both from T-SQL and
Enterprise Manager)

T-SQL

RESTORE FILELISTONLY
FROM DISK = 'c:\A.bck'

RESTORE DATABASE B
FROM DISK = 'c:\A.bck'
WITH MOVE 'A_Data' TO 'c:\test\B.mdf',
MOVE 'A_Log' TO 'c:\test\B.ldf'

and as I try to restore I get the following error :

Server: Msg 3154, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
The backup set holds a backup of a database other than the existing 'B'
database.
Server: Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.

Would you kindly help me ?????

I'm out on a limb here, but my interpretation is that there is already
a database B on the machine, but the backup is taken from another
database (A?). Adding ", REPLACE" at the end will get rid of the
error message - and wipe out B, so be careful that this is what you
want to do.

Problem replicating from Std Edition to Developer Edition

Trying to replicate,

from: Win 2K Server, SQL Std Edition 8.00.818 SP3
to: Win XP Pro, SQL Developer Edition 8.00.2039 SP4

XP has Firewall 'Off', and I added sqlservr.exe and port 1433 to the exceptions list.

Subscription on Win 2K Server gets error that it cannot connect to the subscriber system: SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

Ping from the Win2K to the WinXP box works fine.

The WinXP SQL login works when I connect from my desktop to the XP box using both SQL Ent Mgr and Query Analyzer.

Any ideas?

Looking at the merge agent properties, how does it connect to the publisher, sql login or windows login? If sql login, see if the login has access, and if the password is set correctly. If windows login, it's using the credentials that started the sql server agent service. Find out what login starts the sql server agent service and see if it has access to your publisher machine.

Problem installing setup support files

Hi,
trying to install Reporting Services Enterprise Ed. on a server machine with
configuration:
- Win 2003 Enterprise with SP1
- MS SQL 2000 Server with SP4
- IIS 6 with ASP.NET 1.1
Problem is that when I execute Setup.exe I receive an message: "Error!"
after only 2-3 seconds and thats it! No more info on what the error is or so.
Only option for me is to click Cancel and the installation ends.
This happens when setup tries to install Microsoft SQL Server Reporting
Services Setup Support Files which is the first to happen.
Please, anyone have an idea what this can be or even how to track down the
error?
No errors are reported in Event Viewer.
I have rerun aspnet_regiis just in case, witout any result.

I was running the installation from my local DVD logged in to the server via
Remote Desktop and my local disks shared.
Copied the installationfiles to server harddisk and it installed!
